Getting “JIPped” in Halo 4 No More?

This week’s The Halo Bulletin includes information on recent changes to JIP, or Join in Progress. The changes were made Monday, but feedback from the community shows people are still getting JIPped.

Here are the changes that we should be seeing:

* JIP is disabled across all playlists once half the max game time is achieved

* In Rumble Pit, players will only join “during the first few kills” of the match

* Slayer modes (excepting Team Throwdown and Doubles), KotH and Oddball shouldn’t see JIP after a team has reached half the max score

*Team Throwdown and Doubles has “a small join window during and before the first moments of a match

* In Grifball the JIP window ends once a team has scored three goals

Interestingly, the word “jipped” actually came into use from JIP. “Join in Progress” was a term used when live shows on television cut over into another show’s allotted time for programming. The term to describe how the show was getting robbed of time on the small screen soon came to be known as jipped.

I certainly feel jipped when Halo 4 matchmaking divides my team, or sticks me into a game on the losing side that’s almost over. If I had a choice, I would elect to spend another five minutes waiting than to join a game in progress and have my party split. And I certainly never want to be put into a game already in progress on the losing team.

Are the new JIP settings working for you? Are you still getting JIPped? What are your thoughts on Join in Progress? >>
