War Games Map Pass announced for Halo 4

Today Microsoft has announced the War Games Map Pass for Halo 4, a “Season Pass” of sorts that would let Halo 4 fans purchase all three forthcoming War Games DLC at a 15% discount. The War Games Map Pass retails for $24.99 (2000 MSP) and will be included as part of the cost of the Limited Edition version of Halo 4. The standard edition of Halo 4 will retail for $59.99, while the Limited Edition will retail for $99.99 (and includes bonuses besides the War Games Map Pass).

In addition to the three War Games map packs (planned for launch in December, February, and April), players who buy the War Games Map Pass receive the unique in-game “Falcon” emblem and two bonus in-game helmets, “Scanner” and “Strider,” which feature “new geometry.” Owners of the War Games Map Pass should access their DLC content through the Halo 4 in-game store, not Xbox Live Marketplace. Downloading from the Marketplace will lead to the buyer being charged twice.

The planned release dates and contents of each War Games map pack are as follows:

*Crimson Map Pack (December timeframe)
-Wreckage: a map blending “claustrophobic spaces and dangerous exposures”
-Harvest: a map depicting “human colony environs”
-Shatter: a map that lets players “explore a human foray on an alien moon”

*Majestic Map Pack (February timeframe)
-Landfall: emphasizes “infantry battles against a glittering ocean on a distant world”
-Monolith: a map that “exposes you to the naked vacuum of space”
-Skyline: a map with an “industrial feel” with “somewhat familiar, but occasionally confined spaces”

*Castle Map Pack (April timeframe)
-Daybreak: a map set in “a military facility against the backdrop of an idyllic mountain range”
-Outcast: a map set in “the warrens, canyons, and arches of an alien edifice”
-Perdition: emphasizes “tactical speed and situational awareness,” set in “the heart of an urban sprawl”
