Team Play Rewarded With New Halo 4 Ranks

landfall-two-red

You may have heard that Halo 4 is getting a new ranking system, but did you know that some of the playlists will match you with other teams with a similar “team rank” and that you will rank up based on team play and not individual skill?

Slayer playlists will rank each individual after each match based on their score, regardless of win or loss. In these playlists if you score lower than your norm, your rank will decrease, making it not possible to be carried by a team.

Objective playlists will rank you based on win or loss, and match you using a sort of “team skill” system, averaging individual skill and wins and losses in that playlist. Because of this priority, it will take longer to match in these playlists but the result should be more challenging gameplay. Ranks in these playlists will be determined by individual team score and whether or not your team won the game.

According to Waypoint it will take longer to rank up in the “select” playlists, but your rank will more accurately reflect your ability to be a team player.

These ranks are also introducing a quit penalty, until now not seen in Halo 4.

From Waypoint:

“If you leave early once a match has started, it treats it as if you were the lowest rank in the match for the individual-scored playlists and as a loss on the team-scored playlists. Players that join in progress are currently treated as if they had played the entire match. That said, in our selected, more competitive playlists, there will be rules in place to mitigate the effect. Namely:
  1. You can only join in progress during a small window of time in the beginning of the match, so those players will still have time to contribute meaningfully to the match.
  2. Friends are not allowed to join a game in progress. Only random players searching through Matchmaking can join during that 60-second window.
The rules for these playlists restrict the amount of noise from Join-in-Progress since that feature is only possible during the first few moments of the match. They also help improve the purity of CSR in these playlists. We plan on putting in these Join-in-Progress parameters as close to CSR launch as possible.”
