Game Informer’s next big cover story may have just been revealed to be Halo 4, but details about the anticipated sequel’s changes have already found their way online. A NeoGAF poster listed a slew of the new features coming to Halo 4’s multiplayer as reported by Game Informer.

Competitive multiplayer will now be titled Infinity, and will both directly and indirectly tie into the campaign. Infinity mode gets its name from a UNSC ship where Spartan IVs will train in virtual reality sessions en route to a deep space mission. The competitive multiplayer will reportedly shed some light on the rivalry between Reds and Blues, and will feature only Spartan soldiers.

Co-op multiplayer returns as well, but in a new form. Players will be able to enjoy the campaign with up to three other friends, but Firefight will be ditched this time around. Instead, 343 Industries is introducing Spartan Ops, a new co-op mode that will offer new missions on a weekly basis. Spartan Points will also be included for the first time, and act as Halo 4’s currency. The points can be used to purchase new armor, armor abilities, Spartan Ops missions, and more.

There are also a few changes to the core gameplay of multiplayer. The first being instant respawns. Instead of waiting a short duration before being able to re-enter the fray, players will be able to jump back into the action immediately. Additionally, weapons will be dropped randomly, and will no longer appear in consistent spawn locations. As for armor abilities, Sprint will now be constantly equipped for everyone, though you will still have to manage what other abilities you have equipped.

343 Industries is sure looking to shake things up judging by these new details. Hopefully all these changes will be for the better. What do you think?
