It’s not Halo, but damn it’s cool! Roboy

Switzerland, a country known for producing some of the most creative and innovative scientists and engineers, will soon birth the engineering marvel that is Roboy.

roboyRoboy is a robot being developed to aid those who are physically incapable of accomplishing tasks they wish to accomplish in their everyday lives, allowing them to be autonomous instead of depending on other humans to assist them. He’s being created to more closely resemble the way humans move, having a flexible spine and joints that function closer to a body made of flesh and blood. Among a vast number of other traits, Roboy will be able to recognize faces.

rosie-jetsonsIt’s easy to imagine in the not-distant future, Roboy units roaming the streets, walking dogs and fetching groceries from the local market. Like a modern-day Rosie from the Jetsons, household chores could easily be taken over by a robot. Yes, it’s easy to imagine no more dishwashing or lawn watering.

Many families will become attached to their Roboy helpers, much like how we can become attached to a pet, or a child even. If a Roboy is a part of the family for many years and their replacement parts become obsolete, how might that affect people’s emotions, when their Roboy must be upgraded and no longer looks or acts as if they are the same… person?

Roboy is set to be “born” in nine months. Dreams of no more chores set aside, he’s a wonderful addition to the tools that are being created to bring us to an era where our attentions can turn away from merely trying to survive, into an era where we can truly shine in focusing on increasing the quality of life, everywhere.

The future is now, folks. The future is now.
