So anybody who hasn’t heard yet, a meteor or meteor shower is thought to have hit Russia yesterday. Tons of people caught parts of it on their phones and cameras and it’s all over the net, but nailing down specific facts is difficult. Here’s what seems to be fact so far:

    * The metor is thought to have been comprised mostly of iron
    * at approx 32,000 feet it exploded, the shockwave busting windows and building damage
    * energy of the explosion thought to be equivalent to 300 kilotons of TNT
    * approx 1,000 people were injured, mostly from shattered glass, but no fatalities have been reported
    * it was thought all of it evaporated in the atmosphere but they’ve found a 20ft hole through ice over a lake
    * we didn’t see it coming
    * largest meteor blast in Russia since 1908
    * has nothing to do with the astroid that has already passed Earth at it’s closest and is now moving away (DA14) they were on different trajectories.
