Giant eyeball found on beach, posing mystery for marine biologists

A photo from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission shows a giant eyeball from a mysterious sea creature that washed ashore and was found by a man walking the beach in Pompano Beach, Fla., on Wednesday. The eyeball will be sent to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Looks like squid meat on the sides, to me. I bet it’s a giant squid eye. Very blue, pretty for an eyeball, lol.

Seriously, I don’t want to wonder any more, can they just find the damn thing already?!?

NBC on msn:

Bigfoot research gets lift from stealth airship

Private craft will make nighttime flyovers of alleged creature’s ‘hotspots’

Past expeditions to find conclusive evidence for the existence of Bigfoot have at least two things in common: They were unsuccessful, and they were ground-based.

That’s why the Falcon Project will make history regardless of whether it achieves its goal of capturing “clear, steady film evidence of a Hominoid in its natural habitat.”

Using a 45-foot-long, camera-mounted, remote-controlled airship, project founder William Barnes plans to work with a team that includes one scientist to conduct nighttime flyovers of reported Bigfoot hotspots around the United States.

Barnes, a gold dredger whose current endeavor was inspired by an alleged encounter with a Bigfoot-like creature he claims to have had in 1997, thinks the helium-filled craft will allow his team to succeed where others have failed due to its unprecedented advantages in two key areas: stealth and maneuverability.

The camera aboard the craft can film in infrared, thermal imaging and high definition. And as the ship scans densely wooded regions from a penetrating vantage, it will never spook a potential subject with a broken twig or run out of breath in a one-sided foot race, Barnes believes.

This is why more and more old people are migrating to gaming ;)

Excerpt from:

Groundbreaking experiment in virtual reality uses video game to treat pain

Remains of Lt. Sam Brown’s Humvee after I.E.D. explosion

“With burn injury, that rehabilitative process can go on for weeks to months, sometimes even years if the burn is significant enough as it was in Sam’s case,” Dr. Maani said.

Lt. Brown endured more than two dozen painful surgeries, but the most excruciating pain came from the daily wound care and the physical therapy that followed. The procedures were so unbearable that there were times when Brown’s superior officers would have to order him to undergo treatment.

Brown was deeply concerned about growing dependent on the addictive painkilling narcotics he needed to take. So, his doctor suggested something completely unexpected to relieve his pain: a video game.

“I was a little bit skeptical. But honestly, I was willing to try anything,” Brown admitted.

A video game may sound silly, but this particular game, SnowWorld, is a groundbreaking experiment in virtual reality. In SnowWorld, Brown could concentrate on throwing snowballs at penguins and mastodons to the music of Paul Simon, instead of focusing on the painful wound care happening at the same time.

Dr. Maani explained that SnowWorld uses the age old trick of distraction.

“It’s saying, ‘Hey, look over there,’ when you rip off your child’s band aid,” Dr. Maani said.

Something about this is kind of scary. Now they’ve just got to figure out a way for sugars and other empty calories not to tax your liver and kidneys

Pepsi Japan Introduces “Fat-Blocking” Soda

Soda has recently been dragged through the mud as a main contributor to obesity. Who would have ever guessed it could possibly prevent weight gain? Well that’s exactly what a new special edition Pepsi in Japan purports. The new version claims to contain “fat blockers.”

The soft drink, named Pepsi Special, which will be released by Suntory and Pepsi, has been deemed by the Japanese government as a “food for specified health uses.” According to the Huffington Post, it includes dextrin, which “some say helps prevent the digestive system from absorbing fat.”

What’s dextrin? Essentially it’s a powder used as an additive in foods to change texture or to create coatings as a pharmaceutical thickening or binding agent. It is also used in textiles to increase the stiffness of fabrics. But you probably noticed it as part of another word, maltodextrin, which is a digestible carbohydrate derived from rice, corn, or potato starch and can be found in the list of ingredients in everything from granola to snack foods. But dextrin alone is different. It’s indigestible. And studies on Japanese lab rats have shown that when used as a food additive, dextrin makes it difficult for the body to absorb fat.

And what’s this? Just when you thought shit couldn’t get any weirder…

New Candy is Actually Edible Deodorant

We’ve all heard the saying, “you are what you eat.” But thanks to a company that created ingestible deodorant, maybe we should now say, “you smell like what you eat.”

According to The Guardian, Beneo, a U.S.-based company, created a candy that controls how people smell. Called Deo Perfume Candy, the sweet releases a rose scent after consumption. It will also make the candy eater smell like roses for up to six hours.

Apparently the candy is similar to garlic. Both foods contain compounds that cannot be broken down so they are instead released through skin pores. Geraniol, a compound found in plants like roses, lavender, and vanilla, is used in this case to create garlic’s effect, except this time with a pleasant scent.

The candies are sugar-free and tangerine-flavored and are currently for sale online at the steep price of $10 for a small bag. They are already available in Spain, Germany, China, Korea, and Armenia. The sweets are being repackaged and will be released around Valentine’s Day in the UK.

Note from Admin: this post is not to start up heated debate over government issues, only to point out an interesting historic moment. Government debate is a good way to lose friends; let’s not go there…

And so it begins…

Petition for Texas to secede from US reaches threshold for White House response

By Vignesh Ramachandran

An online petition that calls for the State of Texas to withdraw from the U.S. and create its own government on Monday reached the required signature threshold to receive an official response from The White House.

The petition on WhiteHouse.gov asks the Obama administration to “peacefully grant the State of Texas to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own new government.” The petition had surpassed 34,000 signatures as of Monday evening. It was created by a person self-identified only as “Micah H.” from Arlington, Texas.

The petition cites the nation’s economic woes as an issue and says that the condition of Texas’ budget and economy make it “practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union.”

Doesn’t that happen every year in Texas? Seriously, didn’t the governor make a threat of secession last year?

Nah, that’s a hoax. I’ve seen bigfoot and he doesn’t look like that. Besides, their account is full of holes.

I’m sort of kidding, I mean, what I saw was a bear walking on two legs across a highway, then placing one hand on the guardrail and swinging it’s legs over the divider, then off the road and out of sight into the woods. It’s one of the reasons I don’t discount bigfoot. I’d say it was bigfoot before I’d say it was someone in a suit. It totally was a bear, but who heard of a bear getting over a guardrail like that. Weird. It was a ways off, but I know what I saw.

I should note I am that person who has a movie ruined because it’s obvious that crow they just killed and picked up already has rigormortis, or that the hair on that other dead animal is clearly a stuffed animal with pretend fur. In other words, I’m a stickler for “fake” and I have a really good eye for it.

If what I saw was a bigfoot, they look more bear than gorilla like all the hoaxes show.

But I don’t really believe in bigfoot, regardless of what I saw.

LOL.

I was pointing out that there is a weekly show, on Animal Planet, based around people that are looking for bigfoot.

Omg. O, O… just omg.

the article says:

“If you had plenty of disposable income, no kids to feed, no spouse to voice an objection, a deep love of video games and plenty of extra space around the house, would you build the ultimate gamer’s paradise in your home? Of course you would. This is America. Redditor Videogeddon did just that, saving up to outfit his outwardly modest house with a stunning array of screens of various sizes, shelves full of games, multiple console stations and even a few old-school arcade classics. And he did it with room for all his gaming friends to come over and hang out. Check out our gallery of this sweet setup.”

My biggest fear is I’d get it all set up… then I’d be done with gaming and on to something else in life, lol.
